The Subtraction Strip Board is used in Montessori classrooms in the last year of primary level around age 5. The purpose of the Subtraction Strip Board is to help children develop an understanding of subtraction with a difference that is less than 9 and to begin memorizing math facts.
The Subtraction Strip Board is built similarly to the Addition Strip Board. It consists of a wooden board with a 12 x 18 grid, a set of 9 blue strips, and a set of 9 red strips, both numbered from 1 to 9.
Alison’s Montessori’s new set, Subtraction Strip Board Complete Set, offers a complete study of subtraction facts with differences less than 9. The set includes their finest premium quality wooden materials with 2 sets of printed laminated precut curriculum materials in wooden boxes.
The curriculum materials, Subtraction Strip Board Activity set 1, invites children to lay out the materials for a given equation. The visual control for errors appears on the back of each card. Subtraction Strip Board Activity set 2 contains commands that invite children to lay out strips on the board and find the difference of a given equation.
