Montessori Food Preparation Butter Knives

Learning to use a butter knife improves fine motor control to prepare kids for writing. When toddlers use a knife, they strengthen their hand muscles. It builds self-confidence and responsibility.

When a child's coordination grows better, around 2-3 years, you may introduce a butter knife. This knife is usually smaller than the regular knife so it does require better fine motor skills to hold it.
