This Montessori-inspired floor bed is the perfect transition for your little one to go from a crib to a regular bed. This bed is not just a mattress on the floor, but a real bed with a frame and slats that are meant to be used by your child through the years. When the time comes the top rails can be removed in multiple configurations and the optional riser or feet can easily be installed to make into a day bed or a traditional bed. This handcrafted bed starts from select 8/4 (2-inch thick) poplar that is milled to 1.5-inch thick and is orientated for a consistent and appealing color. Minimum use of visible hardware, most is hidden, and all is safe around children. The structure of this bed is substantial and built in such a way that every component is aligned with dowels and pulled tight with bolts to give for a solid feel.

This floor bed is built where the mattress is suspended 2-5/8 inches above the floor to allow air circulation underneath the mattress. The upper rails have solid 3/4-inch poplar spindle dowels spaced under and 3.5-inch apart that will assure safety when you're not around. This bed comes natural sanded smooth and is safe to use as is or ready for your desired finish. Coastal Hippie Design does offer as an added option 2 child-safe finishes, jojoba oil or beeswax or osmo hard wax.

As of now, it comes in two sizes, twin and full with optional gate and/or riser feet. The optional gate is built with the same quality dowel or bolt construction and slightly tighter spindle spacing. The standard gate or opening is as shown, but different placement is available at no additional charge. The optional riser feet are all that you would need to raise the bed off the floor.

These beds are built with full 1-1/2-inch thick rails that can easily support the loads so there is no need for any additional structure. The riser feet are easily installed at any time with 1/2-inch diameter dowels for perfect alinement.

This floor bed ships unassembled in 3 large boxes with detailed assembly video instructions. Custom sizes are available at request, as well as finishes, and wood species like walnut, cherry, and even mahogany.

Railing height: 19 inches from mattress slats or bottom of the mattress to top of the railing. Mattress slats are included, the mattress is not included.

Note: this height can be increased to 21.5 inches at no additional cost.
