Montessori Cubes
Montessori has two popular cubes that children love to tinker with, the binomial and the trinomial cubes. The cubes consist of 8 wooden blocks that kids need to assemble to be able to fit in a box.

The cubes are sensorial materials. Kids treat them and play with them as 3D puzzles. However, they provide an introduction to the concept of (a + b)³ that will be useful later when they learn math.
Children as young as 4 can already work with the cubes. They can learn how to assemble the blocks correctly so they will become a cube.
"When you take the next cube, emphasize the degree of exactness required in placing the cubes, otherwise the children will not repeat the exercise as often as they should." Maria Montessori, The 1946 London Lectures
